Sexual and gender minority people are three times more likely to experience a mental health condition such as major depression or generalized anxiety disorder, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Psychedelics have shown promise for a number of these mental health conditions. However, with the exception of one small, open-label study giving psilocybin to gay men with HIV—there have yet to be any clinical trials specifically geared towards members of the LGBTQIA+ community or looking at whether current treatments work as well for sexual and gender minority folks. Dr. Alex Belser has been looking at how to change that as well as how to make current psychedelic therapy more inclusive. In this 75-minute webinar, he talks about the promise of psychedelics for LGBTQIA+ folks as well as what we might do to make these medicines more accessible. There will also be time for questions from our community at the end.
